Naming Ceremony of the Toisa Paladin on 22 November 2007

On the morning of Thursday 22 November, 2007, Mr Ståle Rasmusssen, the Managing Director of Kleven Verft AS, welcomed the naming party and other guests to the memorable occasion of the naming of Toisa’s newbuilding DP2 Saturation Diving Vessel, Hull No. 308 the Toisa Paladin, at his shipyard on Ulsteinvik Island, near Ålesund, Norway.

The naming party was made up of Mr & Mrs Gregory Callimanopulos, His Eminence Bishop Lenis Amvrosios, Father Prokopios Petridis, the Lady Sponsor Mrs Karin Pieters (wife of Mr Kieran Pieters, Managing Director of The Bluestream Group who have chartered the vessel for 5 years), Toisa and Sealion Shipping management and other guests from around the world.

Mr Rasmussen’s welcome was reciprocated by a speech given by Mr Callimanopulos who thanked the yard for their hard work and expertise in building the ship, their friendly welcome and hospitality and his conviction that the association between Toisa and Kleven would be a long and happy one.

His Eminence Bishop Lenis Amvrosios, with the assistance of Father Prokopios Petridis, then proceeded to bless the ship after which Mrs Pieters broke the champagne bottle on the hull and named the ship the Toisa Paladin.

Despite having to perform in pouring rain, the Hasund & Dimnøy School Band marked the occasion by playing both the Greek and the Norwegian national anthems.

Guests were then invited onboard to inspect the vessel and Bishop Amvrosios continued to bless the internal areas of the ship with his holy water.

Following the ceremony everyone proceeded to a local hotel where Kleven hosted a delicious lunch at which speeches were made and exchanges of gifts took place, including a holy Icon which was presented by the Bishop to Richard Inkster , the ship’s Chief Engineer.

Launch and Naming Ceremony of the Toisa Pegasus on 24 November 2007

On the afternoon of Saturday 24 November 2007, Mr Ton Rietdijk, the Managing Director of Merwede Shipyard, welcomed the naming party and other guests to the memorable occasion of the launch and naming ceremony of Toisa’s newbuilding DP3 Offshore Construction/Diving Support Vessel, Hull No. 712 the Toisa Pegasus.

The naming party was made up of Mr & Mrs Gregory Callimanopulos, His Eminence Bishop Lenis Amvrosios, Father Prokopios Petridis, the Lady Sponsor Mrs Lorena Vázquez de Hernández (wife of Mr José Hernández Cantarell, President of CICSA who has chartered the vessel for 5 years),  Toisa and Sealion Shipping management and staff and many other guests from around the world.

On arrival at the yard, to the accompaniment of the brass band “EMS”, Mrs Lorena Vázquez de Hernández was greeted by Mr Rietdijk and Mr Augusteijn (Mayor of Hardinxveld-Giessendam) and was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Lora Buijs. All guests were then offered refreshments before being welcomed to the ceremony by Mr Rietdijk.

At just after four in the afternoon everyone was asked to leave the yard’s restaurant and to assemble on the launching platform in preparation for the ceremony.  Hundreds of shipyard workers and their families lined the gangways and even more local people waited outside on the dyke.  There was an audible buzz of anticipation and excitement within the building shed.

His Eminence Bishop Lenis Amvrosios, with the assistance of Father Prokopios Petridis, then proceeded to bless the vessel.  After the blessing the last stoppings were removed and Mr Rietdijk handed Mrs Lorena Vázquez de Hernández a silver ceremonial axe to cut the ribbon holding back the champagne bottle for the christening of the vessel.  She named the vessel Toisa Pegasus and wished the ship and all who sail on her safe passage and then released the bottle which smashed on the hull to applause and cheers from everyone watching.  The band then played the Greek, Dutch and British national anthems as the vessel was launched and moved smoothly and grandly down the slipway into the dyke.

The official party, yard employees and other guests then made their way back to Merwede’s restaurant for champagne, speeches and exchanges of gifts before being taken to a local restaurant for a delicious celebratory dinner hosted by Merwede.
